This class will introduce the basic steps and partnering techniques of Bachata. Bachata is an informal partner dance originating from the Dominican Republic. The dance has grown tremendously in popularity over the past decade, and is now one of the most popular social dances at Latin nightclubs around the world. It is common to hear Bachata music in the mix with Salsa, Merengue and other rhythms. By the end of the class, you will be DANCING!
Come with or without a partner. No dance experience needed.
Growing up with a strong focus on sports, Brian never spent much time dancing until later in life. His dance career began after college with group lessons in standard and Latin ballroom. Over time a passion developed for the dances of Kizomba and Bachata. He now teaches regular classes in Portland, but you’re far more likely to see him dancing in a social setting. The experience of growing up as a “non-dancer” helps Brian teach others to dance, even if they have no background.
Brian trains and practices in Portland, Maine at Aquarius Ballroom Dance Studios, but travels throughout the country to attend dance conferences to learn more with a variety of instructors. He finds a way to incorporate dance into his life each day, with the belief that dance is a powerful form of human expression, and an incredible way to connect with other people.
